Morning reflections

This piece was painted to honour new friends that briefly touched my life before they had to move on again. They were new in the country, fled from Syria. I learnt so much about community, neighbourliness, food - delicious food, and friendship from them. It seemed fitting to paint food as often our time together involved food. I chose these colours because they feel uplifting, and hopeful, which is how my new friends said they felt from our time together. We lifted each other up, I made them welcome, and they taught me about community. I honour them.
