Waiting to Blossom.....

So if you've followed the blog over the last 18 months, you'll have seen over been experimenting with new subject matter. I tried some abstract stuff but just didn't connect with it (and after doing my first Solo Exhibition I discovered that I actually like to paint abstract concepts symbolised by concrete objects, who would've figured that a solo exhibition would find with such deep artistic self understanding😂🤦🏼‍♀️). Anyway, instead I turned back to people. I used to sketch people and do life drawing of the body many years ago. Again my style wasn't super realistic but I was trained in traditional methods.

I have found that combining the exercise of continuous line drawing ( draw your while picture in a continuous line) with a blind contour drawing (draw your picture with your eyes following the object only and NOT looking on the canvas), has opened a while new satisfying area for me to play around with. By putting these figures into my type of still life scene, I can explore current seasons I'm going through.

In this case, it's waiting. I hate waiting. I have not usually been described as a very patient person. I am a person who gets the idea and then immediately goes into action. I am a fast learner, I pick things up quickly, and I've spent a chunk of life wondering why others don't keep up. Well there's been a whole season of my life lately that's put a big old stop to all of that, forced me to address some of those not so great attitudes, and decidedly learning how to wait well and find merit, and value, in patience.

Good grief it has been a trial😅 but I am persisting. I am learning to embrace the wait, embrace the slowness, and find that just cos life doesn't happen immediately or at a million miles an hour, doesn't mean it isn't being lived.

I am already in the middle of painting the second installation in this series, it's called "The Coronation of Patience" and the third is sketched up, which is called "The Preparation for Persistence".

I feel like I'm getting into my groove with expanding my artistic techniques and skillset - yay that's awesome - plus I'm stepping deeper into painting my emotions which again is a big plus, and something you may remember from several years ago when I used my music to enable me to reach my emotions and paint them. That was a mini series I did called "Painted Music".

So in life and in art, I am learning new skills which is helping make me a better artist, and a better people. These are all good things..... And apparently good things come to those who wait😉
